“Having grown up the son of two teachers, I learned first-hand the importance of education. I watched the enjoyment my parents gained from helping others learn something new for the first time – and they passed that value onto me. To this day, the importance of educating others is what motivated me to create a financial planning practice where I strive to empower my clients through on-going education. I really enjoy seeing my clients gain confidence in their financial plan as we help them establish and implement reliable financial strategies."

In 2002 I started out in the financial service business with a box of business cards meeting people door-to-door in Maplewood, Minnesota as part of the large national brokerage firm, Edward Jones.

As I have talked with families over the years, I find that my experiences growing up on an Illinois farm and with parents who were teachers really helps me connect with clients on an important level. This matters to me because I think everybody should understand their financial game plan on a very practical level - and how I am working to help move them forward. Most of my clients are in the retirement red zone – the five years prior to and the 10 years after retirement – which can be a challenging time so we really need to get things right.

That’s why these are my client service standards:

  • I am a Fiduciary Advisor which means I am ALWAYS an advocate for my clients and my financial planning advice is always focused on the client’s best interest.
  • I am a Fee-First Advisor -- which means I do NOT get compensation from investment product companies to do financial planning. My fees can be hourly, as a flat project rate, or as a percentage of the assets under my care.
  • I have the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) designation. The CFP® designation is proof that I have extensive experience, state-of-the-art training, the highest ethical standards and a commitment to annual continuing education to stay abreast of the latest industry trends.
  • I maintain the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®) designation to assure that my practice stays focused on the 21 best fiduciary practices for investment advisors as outlined by the Center for Fiduciary Studies.
  • I create a thorough, easy to understand financial plan for all my clients. I look at all aspects of the family’s financial life to be sure everything we do helps my client move closer to their most important goals.
  • I have a conservative approach. Most of my clients are more focused on avoiding loss of their retirement nest egg than they are eager for extreme growth in the market, so I emphasis safety and consistency in my investment planning.


I hold a Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in Agriculture Education and Communications

I am the father of three children, as of fall 2022 we are entering year 7 of 12 of kids in college. Freddy is 24, Peggy is 21 and Miles is 18. I live with my wife, Margaret Lee, in West Saint Paul, Minnesota, where I enjoy kids' sporting events, bicycling, and spending time with friends. We are active members of Saint Matthews Catholic Church and supporters of Community of Saints Catholic grade school.
